A celebration of French chamber music

Chamber Socials are an intimate evening out by candlelight with food, drink, and spectacular live music performed by the principal players of the PGSO.  Appetizers are included with table seats, and a cash bar is available to all. Doors open at 6:30pm and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to find a seat.

Tables may be reserved for groups of 4, 6, or 9 by calling the PGSO box office.

Did You Know?

  • Claude Debussy’s Petite Suite was originally composed for “piano four hands,” which means a duet with two players on the same piano. It has been arranged for orchestras as well as this woodwind chamber version.
  • Like Debussy, Maurice Ravel disliked being labelled an impressionist composer. He valued individuality in composers and musicians, thus refusing to teach George Gershwin because he didn’t want to overly influence Gershwin’s distinct sound.
  • Jean Françaix was a prolific composer from the age of six, with works in various genres but especially in woodwind chamber ensembles and film scores for director Sacha Guitry. The Dixtuor (piece for ten people) is one of his final compositions.
