The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) will hold national auditions on Sunday, January 31, 2027 for principal cello. If a candidate is unable to travel to Prince George for the audition, a recorded audition may be accepted – inquire with your application. All auditions will be held behind a screen. Applicants are expected to accept the position if offered.

Please note that this is a Canadian national audition; therefore it is open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and to those with work permits which would authorize them to work for the PGSO.

The musicians of the PGSO are members of the Canadian Federation of Musicians, and the orchestra has a collective agreement with the Vancouver Musicians Associations, CFM Local 145. The concert season runs from September 1 – May 31.

The successful applicant will begin the position in the 2027-2028 concert season and is expected to reside in the general area of Prince George, BC. In addition to playing with the PGSO, the audition winner is highly encouraged to take advantage of the possibilities offered by being a professional cellist living in Prince George. While the position of principal cello is part-time, a motivated applicant would be able to build a private studio and create their own performance opportunities in the area.

The Prince George Conservatory of Music (PGCM) is prepared to offer to the winner of this audition a guaranteed minimum teaching salary of $1600/month, 10 months out of the year, in addition to other paid performance opportunities and the possibility of working with the youth orchestra as co-director. Further teaching benefits can be found at pgconservatory.ca/join-our-teaching-team. Questions about working at PGCM should be directed to Shoshanna Godber, Artistic Director of PGCM, at director@pgconservatory.ca.

BENEFITS: Musicians Pension Fund of Canada 11% (minimum), Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Disability.

APPLICATION: Interested applicants are asked to e-mail a complete one page resume including name, address, telephone number and local affiliation to:
