Prelude Jordan Nobles
Sinfonia Concertante Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major, Op.55 "Eroica" Ludwig van Beethoven

Groundbreaking music by Nobles, Mozart, and Beethoven

This stirring season finale celebrates artistic courage.  Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante in E flat delights with its experimental freedom, while Beethoven's "Heroic" Symphony No. 3thrills with its revolutionary spirit.  With the PGSO's own Katherine Peter (violin) and Calvin Yang (viola) taking centre stage.

Did You Know?

  • Canadian composer Jordan Nobles has won a JUNO and a Western Canadian Music Award, amongst many other honours.  Jordan's website
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his older sister Nannerl were both child prodigies, performing in tours of Europe. While Nannerl couldn’t continue as a performer due to her sex, Wolfgang went on to find work in music.
  • Possibly because he was distracted by the fun of working on more creative works like this Sinfonia Concertante, Mozart got himself fired from his job as a church organist in Salzberg.
  • Ludwig van Beethoven originally intended to dedicate this symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte, but perhaps between political considerations with his noble patrons, and disillusionment over Napoleon crowning himself emperor, eventually settled on making it a more general homage to heroism.
